Singlemindedness...

Apparently, I have a one-track mind.. Or maybe it's just a one-track-at-a-time mind..
Either way, here's a list of the 'important' things-that-have-to-be-done in my life in order of the day
1) DD's spelling words and social studies test - She has a test today in both. Social studies was on the continents and oceans.. She knew them, their location and the spelling of them all.. She was good on that.. The spelling test is actually a 'pre-test' - if you get 100 you don't have to take the 'test' on Friday.. We studied those more this morning.. For some reason, she can spell things like 'mayonnaise' and 'campaign', but the word 'frighten' was screwing her over.. And I forgot to remind her to get her science books/notes for the test tomorrow. She wrote it in her assignment book so I hope she sees it and remembers.. Crossing fingers.. I'm a nervous wreck when it comes to her and her organizing herself for school..
2) Major order - Ordering $200K of furniture.. And I'm the one that has to spec it all.. Ugh.. Not my favorite.. But this ate up the first 3 hours of my workday
3) Meeting - Five Year Plan for renovations.. Yeah, toss it on the wall and see what sticks.. Actually, it's not a bad idea to have a 5 year plan.. But the things on the coming 5 year plan are the same things that were on the plan for the last 5..
4) Lunch with Confidante - Discussions of the Agnostic/future in-laws (hers)/kids in general.
5) I got a raise.. 4.65%.. Not great, better than most.. And no letter, no phone call.. :-/
6) Fire-fighting - All the nit-picky things from trying to explain to an HR person that the vending machine people put the items that actually sell in their vending machines to helping different companies within the corporation swap chairs.. With regards to the vending, we have minimal control. This request comes up when one of these new management types gets on a tear about having the employees eat healthier snacks.. Since part of what I do is dealing with these contractors, I have to be the one to bear the stupid news to the vending machine people.. And they so love me for it.. Not! What part of 'capitalism' doesn't this newbie mgr understand? The vending machine guy is going to stock his machines with chocolate and salty crunchies because that's what sells. If people bought muesli and fruit like they buy Snickers and Doritos, no problem.. But they don't and under the current contract, I can't demand that they keep the machines stocked with only healthy stuff. The contract indicates that, if a machine has high waste or low sales, they have the right to pull it out and we don't have to compensate them.. If we want to dictate what goes into the machines, we have to rent the machines plus pay for the waste.. Um, no.. Not gonna do it.. :)
Also, trying to find where they sent my 500 yds of carpet for the new facility. They say it shipped last Monday, but it hasn't arrived (usually no more than 3 days door-to-door).. Also trying to find the ceramic tile and vinyl base.. That company doesn't even know if it's shipped yet.. Sheesh... Why can't people just do what you fucking tell them and do it the way you tell them to do it? Life would be so much easier..
7) Found out that karate is still on hold. D's gonna be sad.. She loves it. But there are two instructors. One is a nutjob that scares me.. The other had his gym sold out from under him and is trying to find a new place but hasn't yet.. Here's hoping he finds something soon!
And it's only 4pm.. :):)
